Meet Amelia Levin Kent

Born into agriculture on her parents’ ranch in Colorado, Amelia Kent is a fourth-generation farmer who started her own farm in Amite, Louisiana, immediately after graduating from college in 2005. On Kent Farms, located in Clinton, Louisiana, Amelia and her husband, Russell, raise cattle and the family grows ryegrass, Bermuda grass, perennial (forage) peanuts and bahia grass. They also have vertically integrated their farm to include custom and retail beef sales.  In 2018, Russell and Amelia had the prestigious honor of winning the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award.

She previously served as Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee chair and board member for Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation for two years, and previously served on the executive committee of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board. She currently chairs the Louisiana Beef Industry Council and previously held leadership positions with the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation Commission. In addition to working on Kent Farms, Amelia has started writing a monthly column for a statewide agriculture magazine, and strives to be an advocate for agriculture.

Amelia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Religion from Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She, her husband Russell and daughter Avery live in Louisiana.

“Cattle have always been present for me as a way of life,” said Amelia. “My love for the beef industry stems from growing up as a ranch kid as well as having market and breeding beef projects though 4-H and FFA.”
